Prairie Dog Hunts in Montana
Prairie Dog Season/Best Times: Summer is some of the best prairie dog shooting we have to offer, Montana prairie dogs will be out in full force!! We prairie dog hunt all summer long and the shooting is good until late fall most years. These hunts are great fun for all ages of shooters. Prairie dog shooting is a great opportunity for younger shooters to get lots of experience. Coyotes and Badger may also be encountered while prairie dog hunting and may be taken as well.
Rifles & Gear Recommended: Any rifle or handgun is acceptable. These are great hunts to hone your long range shooting skills. We recommend 2 rifles per prairie dog hunter to prevent overheating the barrels. While any firearm will work, keep in mind we have a breeze most of the time making small rifles in the .22 rim fire and .17 hmr range ineffective. We recommend a .223 or a .243 center fire caliber as your small rifle. We supply good swivel shooting benches and you bring your own rest/sand bags. Remember to bring hearing protection and insect repellent along with your personal gear and sleeping bag.
Acres & Land: We have thousands of acres of public and private prairie dog towns.
Ammo: Bring plenty of ammo on your prairie dog hunt, we can shoot 200 rounds per hunter a day. We also have a 100 and 400 yard range at the cabin for target shooting.
